Overcoming....

Maya has been attending a Tae Kwon Do class for several months now (maybe a year? I don't remember). In the beginning she didn't want to go.  She sulked, cried, fussed and stomped every Saturday when it was time to leave. No matter that the teacher was her good friend's father, and all the other students were her best buddies, she felt out of her element and wasn't willing to budge. Slowly she started to warm up, even donning her To Bok without being asked. She began looking forward to class, but still insisted that I stay with her, though none of the other parents did. I was the lone parent, sitting and watching every Saturday. Last Saturday was the yellow belt test, she worked hard, practiced all week.... and earned her yellow belt!

Giving her best "gyup!"

Kicking so high her pant leg came unrolled

This morning she woke up and announced that she was ready to go to Tae Kwon Do alone, and that my chaperoning was no longer necessary.

I guess she's growing up.

It's fun to see your kids become independent, but in a way it's sad too. At least that's how I feel. She is very cute.
