This week something must have clicked in little Henry's brain, he decided that being spoon fed is entirely too infantile, and he will only feed himself from now on. I have tried all the gimmicks to get him to eat from a spoon, making airplane noises, train noises, dancing around like a gorilla, tricking him (ooooh did that make him mad!) begging him, making his food sweet.... the list goes on. All to no avail, on Monday he clamped his mouth shut to spoon feeding for the final time. Silly baby won't even take ice cream from a spoon! So what's a mother to do? I'm afraid he won't get enough calories if he tries to feed himself, mostly because the only foods he'll put in his mouth are grapes, strawberries and gold fish crackers.
Eggs? No.
Toast? Sometimes.
Chicken? Definitely not.
I felt defeated.
Tuesday I was making spaghetti for dinner and Henry was in his high chair, eating grapes and gold fish crackers. As I served Maya and Harrison, he perked up and started pointing at the spaghetti and whining, I decided to give it a try and put some on his tray.
The verdict? See for yourself.

He finished every last morsel (minus the gobs of it that were stuck in the high chair crevices) and I've made him spaghetti for dinner ever night since. His high chair will never be the same.
Now... what to do with a freezer full of sweet potato, banana, green bean, spinach, broccoli and avocado baby food.

You buy Mrs. Seinfeld's book. Hmm, that is probably the first time I have found a use for the book. I know I might be lame, but I think that tricking kids into eating veggies doesn't really help with good eating habits when they are older and have their own choices to make. Jake would take steamed Cauliflower & Broccoli over fries at a restraunt any day!
However, while you have it...USE IT!
I bet that was a fun clean up. I'm sure it was worth it to get him to eat something other than grapes and gold fish. Great pictures!
Mix all that stuff into spagetti! He'll never know. Janey loves to feed herself too. I just put everything on her tray. But I have to go shove the fruit into her mouth or she'll just go for cheese and whatnot. Silly kids.
