Garden 101

We had such grand plans for a garden this year, we were going to build 8 raised beds and fill them with organic mushroom compost, it was all very exciting to dream up and plan.... 2 trips and some out of town guests right in the middle of our "building" time sort of fizzled our plans. Maybe next year? For now we have a little garden plot in the corner of our yard that we thought was perfect for a few tomato, pepper and cucumber plants. We'll see just how green our thumbs really are.

(he's really running this, I swear!)

Ok, so we realized that our soil is nearly 100% CLAY and it's so hard it's a miracle we could get this little tiller to break it up. We mixed 4 giant bags of peat moss in, maybe that will help? I'll keep you posted on our progress. Man do I love fresh produce!

I've got a bag of vermiculite that I put in our garden on the recommendation of my square foot gardening book. It's yours if you want it. It helps make the soil a little more "airy" and hold moisture uniformly. (I think, I just put it in cuz they told me to, blind obedience I guess)

Geez, pretty soon you are going to be able to "rent" Harrison out for manual labor. He has the energy to do the work of a man!
