Hannah's Dad's Sukiyaki

Today I have a special treat for you....

Meet Hannah, she's a dear friend, a beautiful person all around.... and one of the best cooks I know! She agreed to let me share her dad's recipe for Sukiyaki. Let me tell you, this is the ultimate comfort food. Our entire family loves this recipe, it's quick to make and I consider it on the healthy side because of all the vegetables I can smuggle in.

All right, let's talk Sukiyaki, shall we?

You'll need:

1 lb noodles, you can use whatever you like, but Japanese noodles are traditional. I found a brand of Hong Kong fresh pan fry noodles that I LOVE for this recipe, it's so easy because they are already cooked, I just add them to the pan straight from the package.

1-2 lbs thinly sliced rib eye steak, trimmed of fat. If you live near an Asian market, you can get a thinly sliced rib eye for bulgolgi. I just bought a steak and partially froze it, then sliced it paper thin.

Sliced green onions. I used the white and a bit of the green part of 4 onions.

Crushed garlic. I used 4 cloves.

shredded cabbage. I used 1/2 large head and didn't think it was too much at all. It is so tasty!

Sliced broccoli. I used 1/2 head, sliced pretty thin so it cooks quickly.

2 eggs (sorry, not pictured!)

For the sauce:

1/2 cup soy sauce
1/2 cup sweet cooking rice wine
5 Tbsp. sugar
1 Tbsp. sesame oil

Mix the sauce ingredient together and set aside.

Add a bit of oil to the pan and saute the green onions for a few minutes, add the beef and garlic to the pan, careful not to crowd it... Let it cook until barely done, then pour the marinate in and simmer a minute. Then add the vegetables and cover, cooking for about 5 minutes. Add cooked noodles and stir together. Then push the mixture to the side of the pan and crack a couple of eggs in, scramble, then mix in with the sukiyaki.

Ok, this isn't the prettiest picture, but I swear to you... there is nothing better than this!! Thanks Hannah so much for sharing your dad's recipe with me! It's a family favorite now here for sure!

This is good food. Amber served it to us on our last visit. This would be a great 'condo' meal! Could we make it for 23??
