How to strike fear in a mama....

Want to know how to strike fear in this mama? Send me THIS in the mail

Now, don't get me wrong, any other stage of my life I would gladly be part of the democratic process, but arranging daycare and preschool carpools for my Maya and Harrison and weaning my 7 month old to a bottle (what? yes, you heard it right my 7 month old has never had a bottle) makes me feel a bit overwhelmed. I promptly registered my juror position but checked the "request to defer jury duty" box and gave gave an explanation including the phrase "my baby only drinks breast milk." Which worked like a charm, within 72 hours I had a letter in my hand granting my deferment. I was so relieved!! I wasn't ready to wean poor Henry, and I pity the soul that would have been roped into watching all three of them for a full week....

That would be scary-I'm glad you got out of it! Good work =)

I got my first jury duty notice last year. For Federal Court, downtown Chicago. I had to ride the train in, wander the streets of a city I did not know (and got lost) only to sit with the other potential jurors, and NOT get picked. I was actually bummed. However, I got a $76 check in the mail for my time. Then I began to imagine if I had been put on some month long trial, seqestetered even, CHA CHING! BUT, I did not have a baby to ween.... so it's not the same.

I have actually gotten out of Jury Duty "twice" because of either being huge pregnant or nursing.
Hooray for that!

I got a jury notice when I was home schooling everyone and had a nursing baby. I plead for a 'hardship' case and got dismissed. I got another jury duty notice just after I had back surgery. I think my doctor wrote me a 'permanant dissability' note. He said "you will never be able to sit thru a long hearing". So I guess I am offically off the 'list'!

I think it was the "only drinks breast milk" that sealed the deal. It sounds much more urgent and demanding than, "I have a nursing baby". Way to go!
