Old Friends

Last night Tadd & I did something we rarely do. We got in the car and drove to the city for dinner. Just us (and the baby), the Cubs game -they won!- was just getting over, so traffic was a little crazy, but we were able to talk without being interrupted and the baby played with his fingers then slept. We mused that we don't do this often enough. We got to the restaurant just in time for the 7pm reservation at Bistro 110. What was the occasion? An anniversary? Nope, our good friends the Walkers were in town and we were meeting up with them. The Walkers are the kind of friends that don't come along every day. In fact, friends that haven't come along since. They were there for us when it seems like nobody else was. When I had Maya, they brought dinner in to us every night for a week straight! Who does that?? They had 4 small children of their own, but still managed to give selflessly. I will never forget their kindness. They  moved to Colorado a few years ago. We haven't seen them in four (4!) years the reunion was bittersweet, only because we knew the evening would eventually have to end. We lingered over our creme brulee and Perrier for hours, just talking, reminiscing and reconnecting until we closed the place down and were all but shooed out. The conversation flowed easily, the night was gorgeous, the food was delicious, and it was like they never left. The night will leave me with fond memories of days gone, until we can meet up with them again (I hope) before four more years. Sorry no pictures, Tadd thought it would be "lame" to drag the big camera out, I regret it now.

There is nothing in the world like a good friend...okay unless it is a good sister...but you understand what I mean. I am so glad you got to spend time with the Walkers. I'd love to meet them one day!
