This afternoon I took advantage of naptime and left Tadd with the kids for an hour. I can count the breaks I have had from all 3 kids on one hand... wait this may have been the FIRST time I was completely alone. I enjoyed a few quiet minutes at the library looking at cooking magazines and picking up a few holds (ABBA Gold, anyone?). I was driving home, relishing my mere minutes of alone time, Waterloo blasting on the stereo, when I notice a strange car in front of my house. I wonder if the neighbors are having a party I thought. Then I notice a man standing on our front porch. Oh great, I thought, I wonder what he's selling. Then I notice he is standing next to Harrison. Wha? Harrison is suppossed to be sleeping soundly in his bed! I pull in the driveway and the man walks toward me and says. "Your son was standing in the gutter, he says he was waiting for you. I've been ringing your doorbell, I just wanted to make sure he was safe." Embarrassed, I mumble something about his dad babysitting him, and thank him profusely. Just then Tadd comes to the door all bleary eyed from being woken up from his nap to see what all the commotion is about.
I'm humbled that a stranger would stop his car and bring my son to my door. How grateful I am that this was an honest and kind man and not a kidnapper or a pedophile. (Or the police!! Can you say hello DCFS) It brings tears to my eyes to think of what may have happened to Harrison if someone else would have stopped first. Somehow I think Harrison will always be a challenge. For now, we're going to head to the hardware store and find a door lock that he can't reach yet....
So much for the "break"! Please tell me some of you have had kids do this.

Yikes! that left a little knot in my stomach. I am glad he's ok, and grateful to that it was a kind man that stopped first!
Well, first I was going to say how we are kindred spirits and I love Abba Gold so much, I own it myself, but then it seemed to pale in comparison to what happened next. I'm glad he's safe and sound.
We have laughed (sorry) about this all afternoon. The first thing Jarom said was, "I'm sure glad that didn't happen while you were there." Me too!
Scott was about Harrisons age when I got a call from a lady in the ward--do you remember Suzanne Craig? She said "Cindy, Scott is in the middle of the road on Cedar Hills Drive and Willow court. He is on his big wheel crying. My kids are watching him but he won't let me pick him up". I rushed down to pick up a scared little boy. Lesson learned--I couln't take my eye off him for even a minute!! Good luck!
Scary stuff, sounds like he had an angel in his pocket. Jeramie made it half way around the block one time before either of us knew it and I was sick to my stomach, I feel your pain!
