Why I love August

When I was a kid, I dreaded August. August was the worst month of the year, with the exception of maybe January. August had nothing to offer me, the fun of summer had worn off, the 4th and 24 of July had come and gone. The camping trips were all but over, and SCHOOL was right around the corner. The afternoons were way too hot to do anything, the Andy Griffith show and Brady Bunch reruns were the only thing on TV. Boy August was dreaded.... dreaded I tell you!

Now that I'm a bit (ok a lot) older, I have a new love for the month of August. I care more about eating whole foods and about eating local, and let's face it, when you live in the midwest, eating local is really only good in the month of August. Well, unless you can preserve food, but that's another topic all together. Where was I going with this? Oh yes.... This morning we packed the kids in the van and headed to our favorite farm to pick up an abundance of local fruit and vegetables, even raw honey and fresh eggs. We did have to stop at the store for a kiwi, but c'mon, I had to add something green to the bowl to offset all my red fruit. We're taking this to the baptism of our beautiful god daughter tonight. Stay tuned for some pictures tomorrow!

Oh Man! That is the worst part about living here! There just really isn't a great growing season! I would LOVE to have a local market! As it is, we get alright produce at the cost of only your arm and both legs! GREAT!

That looks so yummy! Mmmm, I think I might be headed to the store! Thanks Amber!
