When we bought the new bikes for Harrison and Maya, I was specific about a few rules. One of them was that shoes and helmets must be worn at all times (anyone else remember getting a toe caught in a bike chain??). The kids have really been good about getting helmets and shoes every time they get on their bikes.
I guess I need to specify shoes, helmets and CLOTHING. Harrison didn't see anything wrong with going outside to ride his bike this way.
